Reconciliation Action Plan 2023 – 2025

The Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) of the Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence (GIofAI) signifies the institution’s dedication to engaging with the knowledge and practices of the world’s oldest continuing civilization, in collaboration with First Nations community leaders. This commitment is directed towards the provision of upskilling opportunities aimed at societal enhancement.

GIofAI’s Vision

Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence (GIofAI) recognizes the historical and ongoing injustices experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Australia. As a responsible and ethical institution, GIofAI is committed to fostering reconciliation, promoting greater economic and social equity, and creating a supportive environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

GIofAI envisions a future where reconciliation is embedded in all aspects of its operations, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are valued, respected, and empowered, and where opportunities for their economic and social advancement are realized.

Key Objectives

The Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence (GIofAI) is dedicated to fostering cultural respect and awareness among its staff, students, and stakeholders. To achieve this, GIofAI integrates Indigenous cultural competency training into its induction programs and professional development activities. Furthermore, GIofAI is firmly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. This commitment entails actively recruiting and retaining Indigenous staff at all organizational levels and fostering a culturally safe and supportive work environment. Moreover, GIofAI prioritizes community engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through this engagement, the institute seeks to establish mutually beneficial partnerships, support community-led initiatives, and contribute to positive social outcomes. Additionally, GIofAI endeavors to address educational disparities by developing and delivering culturally relevant education and training programs tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. These initiatives include offering scholarships, mentorship programs, and other forms of support to Indigenous students pursuing studies in artificial intelligence and related fields. Lastly, GIofAI demonstrates its commitment to economic empowerment within Indigenous communities by prioritizing procurement from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses whenever feasible, thereby contributing to economic development within these communities.

Actions

Global Institute of Artificial Intelligence (GIofAI) is committed to fostering reconciliation and economic equity through a series of initiatives aimed at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. To this end, GIofAI will offer a 10% discount on its programs and services as a tangible expression of this commitment. Additionally, GIofAI will develop and implement a recruitment and retention strategy focused on increasing the representation of Indigenous Peoples within the organization, which will include setting targets, providing cultural competency training to hiring managers, and establishing support networks for Indigenous staff. Cultural competency training will be made mandatory for all staff to enhance understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary issues. Furthermore, GIofAI will establish partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organizations and Elders to facilitate meaningful engagement and collaboration. In support of Indigenous education, GIofAI will introduce a scholarship program aimed at Indigenous students pursuing studies in artificial intelligence and related fields, providing financial assistance, mentorship, and access to resources and networks within the AI community. Lastly, GIofAI will develop a supplier diversity policy to encourage procurement from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses, integrating this policy into the organization’s procurement processes and guidelines.

Evaluation

GIofAI is committed to establishing comprehensive mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of its Reconciliation Action Plan. This will involve the regular issuance of progress reports, the incorporation of feedback mechanisms, and the facilitation of opportunities for stakeholder input. Annually, the institution will conduct thorough reviews to assess progress towards achieving key objectives and targets outlined in the plan. Adjustments will be made as deemed necessary to ensure the ongoing effectiveness and relevance of the initiatives undertaken.
